ENThe nature of mission and destiny of the Belarusian Scientific Society Museum in Vilnius (1918-1945) as well as its visiting order are analysed in the article on the basis of text analysis combined with methods of statistical synthesis. Special emphasis is put on distinctive development features characteristic of Vilnius museums of scientific societies and ethnic communities of the first half of the 20th century that sought to interpret their national identity and its connections with the history of Lithuania. These features were also determined by mental conceptions of the organizers and ideological outlooks of the authorities. The didactic mission of the Belarusian Scientific Society Museum is traditional and includes both education and cognition of history. The majority of visitors are students. Their field trips were especially promoted within the "Museum propaganda days". The Belarusian Scientific Society Museum has not remained; it was eliminated in 1945 passing its values on to Soviet Lithuanian and Belarusian museums and other storages due to certain mental relativity: historical and ethnographical values of Lithuanian heritage had been accumulated in Vilnius under the name of the Belarusian National Culture Museum and representing the Belarusian nation.
