ENThe Karalinov manor is one of the least examined estates at the border of Lithuania and Belarus. Perhaps it has been so due to its rather unsophisticated look, absence of outstanding architecture and the present state of decay. Nevertheless, previously having belonged to the family of Sulistrowskis, the estate is interesting and significant thanks to the fact that in 1874, upon marrying its hairess, one of the most famous Lithuanian painters of the 19th century Alfred Romer started his residence there. For more than two decades Karalinov was his main creative workshop. Besides, many other painters and famous people used to visit the place. This article aims to recreate the atmosphere of the estate in the last decades of the 19th century as well as fragments of everyday life and visitors on the basis of Alfred Romer’s epistolary heritage and iconographic material. It is illustrated with painters works and authentic photographs of the estate. [From the publication]
