ENIn his article, the literature researcher and translator seeks to present a summarised view of the reception of Polish literature, mainly translations, in Lithuania. The huge amount of empirical data (just the bibliography of translations of Adam Mickiewicz into the Lithuanian language takes up more than a hundred pages of text!) does not allow us to give a detailed analysis of the translation issues, and therefore the only way was to deal with short characteristics of separate historic al stages, as well as with rather laconic definitions of the state of the spread of contemporary Polish literature. In this case (unlike the reception of German, French or Italian literature), the movement of literary processes was strongly affected by the common Polish-Lithuanian national-political relationship. Moreover, it is wellknown that these literary contacts were established a very long time ago, and have continued since the very beginnings of Lithuanian literature till today The character, standard and even amount of translations varied in different periods. In the modern period of Lithuanian independence (from 1990), almost every genre of Polish literature has been translated: poetry, prose, drama, essays, fantasy and children’ s literature. Among the translators, there are people from different groups: well-known Lithuanian writers, professional translators and amateurs, such as Justinas Marcinkevičius, Sigitas Geda, Tomas Venclova, Kornelijus Platelis, Eugenijus Ališanka, Vytautas Bložė, Irena Aleksaitė, Vyturys Jarutis and Vytautas Dekšnys. In the article by pars pro toto principle translations into the Lithuanian language of Czesław Miłosz, Wisława Szymborska, Witold Gombrowicz, Zbigniew Herbert and other well -known Polish writers are discussed.
