ENThe paper aims to examine the effects of naturalization of Soviet public statues through the case of Grūtas Park, Lithuania; to reveal the divergence between the official goal (to denude the suppressing Soviet ideology) and indifferent aesthetic experience. I consider the Soviet monumental propaganda project as a form of urban mass culture industry. Outside the city statues lose their ideological value (visual and architectonical). Naturalization is the method of appropriation of historical monumental objects that have lost their symbolic and aesthetic values associated with the urban environment. I argue that naturalization of monuments is a way of positive 'non-traumatic' presentation of the Soviet epoch as a case of national art history at least. [From the publication]
