Kelios refleksijos ilgai lauktos knygos tema, arba dar kartą apie skirtingą požiūrį į bendrą istoriją : recenzija

LTSolidi istorikės Henrykos Ilgiewicz knyga, skirta XIX a. Vilniaus mokslo draugijų ir institucijų istorijai, iš karto atkreipė į save Lietuvos tyrėjų dėmesį – ne tiek dėl jos leidimo vietos, kiek dėl itin įdomios ir svarbios problematikos – mokslo institucijų, kurioms plačiąja prasme priskirtinos ir mokslo draugijos, genezės Lietuvoje. Jau pirmoji pažintis su knyga maloniai nustebina autorės pateiktos istoriografijos ir archyvinių šaltinių gausa. Tai lėmė esminį studijos bruožą – didžiulį joje sukauptą duomenų kiekį. Dar vienas išskirtinis studijos bruožas – mėginimas pristatyti iki šiol mažiau arba beveik visai netyrinėtas mokslo draugijas ir įstaigas. Tačiau giliau paanalizavus knygos tekstą atsiranda ir ne viena abejonė. Visų pirma, daug klausimų kyla dėl knygos struktūros. Tačiau esminis priekaištas monografijai – pilno, išsamaus XIX a. Vilniaus mokslo draugijų ir institucijų vaizdo stoka. Tokios plačiõs ir sudėtingos tematikos analizei būtina ne tik gera orientacija archyviniuose fonduose, bet ir gilus konteksto suvokimas. Be abejo, tai padėtų sukurti ne tik pilną, bet ir objektyvų epochos vaizdą. O objektyvumo šiame tekste iš tikrųjų pasigendame. Į to meto procesus tyrėja žiūri vienpusiškai – jai tuometinė Lietuvos istorija (H. Ilgiewicz vartojamu terminu – Vilniaus ir Vilniaus krašto istorija), taigi ir jo mokslo raidos istorija, yra tik Lenkijos istorijos, jos mokslo, jos kultūros, dalis, kai tuo tarpu šiandien jau būtų etiška teigti, kad toji istorija yra ir Lenkijos istorijos, jos mokslo, jos kultūros, dalis. ENA substantial book by historian Henryka Ilgiewicz about the history of 19th century Vilnius research societies and institutions was immediately noticed by Lithuanian researchers not just for its publishing location but for its interesting issues. It is about the genesis of research institutions in Lithuania, which in broad sense includes research societies. The first contact with the book leaves a pleasurable impression due to abundant historiographic and archival sources supplied by the author. This is the defining characteristic of the study: the huge amount of data presented. Likewise the author’s attempt to write about research societies and institutions which had been less researched or not at all researched up to now. However, a closer examination of the text of this book raises more than one doubt. Firstly, the structure of the book is problematic. The main criticism of this work must be the lack of a full and comprehensive picture of 19th century Vilnius research societies and institutions. Analysis of such a broad and complex topic requires not only good orientation in archives but a good understanding of the context, which would help to produce a comprehensive and objective picture of the epoch. Objectivity is what is missing in the text. The processes of the period are studied just from one angle. The author considers the Lithuanian history of the period (or “the history of Vilnius and the Vilnius region” as Ilgiewicz prefers to call it), as well as the history of its scientific and academic development, to be solely part of the history, science and culture of Poland. Today it would be more ethical to say that such history is also a part of the history, science and culture of Poland (as well as Lithuania’s).
