ENIn this paper, using instrumental and statistic methods, the quantity and quality of stressed and unstressed gliding diphthongs [ie], [uo] in Standard Lithuanian is being researched. The unstressed vowels are compared with the stressed vowels. The results of the experiment have demonstrated that there are no big acoustic differences between stressed and unstressed gliding diphthongs [ie], [uo]. Unstressed Lithuanian Standard gliding diphthongs [ie], [uo] have not utmost front, back, high and low articulation, they are focusing in the centre of spectra. The results of the research show that the quantity of unstressed [ie], [uo] in Lithuanian is not the same as the stressed ones. The findings show that the previous are reduced. The longest are the stressed long vowels, shorter – post-stressed and the shortest are prestressed vowels. The second pre-stressed long vowel is 1,9 times shorter than the stressed one, the first pre-stressed – 1,5 times, the first post-stressed vowels – 1,6 times and tne second poststressed vowels – 1,3 times.
