Summary / Abstract:

ENThe article describes the method of dialogical drama with puppets (DDP), which promotes the development of verbal and communicative skills, stimulates self-expression, intensifies processes of comprehension and imagination, creates a new type of child-teacher interaction in preschool classroom. The basis for the method was L. Vygotsky’s thoughts on children’s creativity in general and theatrical (drama) creativity in particular, as well as his thoughts on social nature of child’s play, developed further by D. Elkonin. M. Bachtin’s ideas about the dialogical and polyphonic nature of human consciousness and thinking processes, H. Gardner's Multiple Intelligences theory and the importance of the use of a variety of sophisticated educational methods in preschool classroom. The data of this study consists of videotaped presentations of drama with puppets. Three basic stages are analyzed: selection of a fairy tale; experimenter’s presentation of a fairytale, children’s own presentation of a fairytale with their own puppets. The aims of research are: 1. To study the techniques used by the experimenters and effects of these techniques; 2. To compare the techniques used by the teacher and the child; the similarities and differences in the fairytale plot, as told by the children and the teacher, trying to identify the nature of these similarities and differences; 3. To clarify whether there are any possibilities for children’s creative expression in these activities. The following conclusions are made on the basis of the analysis carried out: 1. DDP method helps in creating a new type of child-teacher interaction during the activity. This interaction is based on an improvised form of a play-dialogue in which both teacher and a child jointly create a common virtual reality, sense field (Выготский, 1978), play world (Lindqvist, 1995), play space (Эльконинова, 1999). 2. The fairytale, performed by the children, is not a repetition, but quite an independent creative activity, which helps children to shape the process of their own understanding and to discover sense hidden in the fairytale. 3. The quality of children’s creativity and learning depends on adult’s sensitive and skilful participation. [From the publication]
