ENThe article investigates the phenomenon of visual culture as a field of study, which analyzes and interprets how the construct of visual experiences within social systems is practiced and structured. The article deals with the definitions of the term visual culture and approaches to art education. The aim of the research is to analyze theoretical preconditions developing visual culture and to survey suggestions on the curriculum basis. Education of visual culture on all levels should take into consideration the changing context of visual art and its didactic influence. Images, objects and artifacts of visual culture are seen and interpreted as forming new knowledge and new images of identity and environment. The paradigm of post-modern art education is a real challenge for art educators. They should understand the implications of visual culture on their professional activities. Training of a post-modern art educator capable of taking new responsibilities calls for a new model of university art education. [From the publication]
