ENThe beginnings of ethnographic studies at the Warsaw ethnology centre go back to 1935 and are associated with Prof. Witold Dynowski. This was not the only ethnographic centre in post-war Warsaw. In 1950 the Study for History of Material Culture was created and in 1954 the Institute of History of Material Culture at the Polish Academy of Sciences. From the 1950' two great tasks were undertaken: the description and analysis of social and cultural changes in rural areas and the conducting of detailed monographic studies. The north-east of Poland is the natural research area for staff and students of the Warsaw ethnology centre. Therefore, many laboratory, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral works and theses devoted to this region have been written. Almost all of them are kept in the Archive of the Institute of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology of Warsaw University. An important role in research work and gathering field material was played by the Inter-University Ethnographic Camps, organized from 1958-1984 in the Polish-Lithuanian-Belarusian borderland,56 Katarzyna Waszczyńska which resulted in the establishing of close cooperation with regional museums. An important part of the article are five supplements comprising a selection of research material, subjects of laboratory, master’s and doctoral studies carried out by students and staff of the Warsaw ethnographic centre, as well as information about the Inter-University Ethnographic Camps.
