ENThe Seminary of Seinai was opened in 1826 and closed in 1915. Most of the seminarians came from ethnical Lithuanian territories. The author established that 1193 people studied in the seminary in 1826-1915. It was possible to learn about the descent of 910 students: about 80 % of them came from ethnical Lithuanian territories and 20 % of them came from Polish ones. The number of Lithuanian seminarians was decreasing and the number of Polish seminarians increasing in 1904-1915. The second half of the 19th century, after the January Uprising, is usually associated with the Lithuanian cultural - national revival and the growth of the Lithuanian national consciousness. The seminarians of the Lithuanian descent set up their organizations (including secret ones) to rouse national consciousness and to help the Lithuanian publishing houses. [From the publication]
