ENThe role of the word form is substantial in the structure of the Lithuanian language. Therefore, acquisition of solid fundamentals of morphology of standard Lithuanian is of utmost importance for future teachers of the Lithuanian language and literature. One of the objectives of the course in morphology is to introduce students into the morphemic structure of the language. While teaching/learning morphemics, both teachers and students face numerous difficulties. Therefore, the goal of the article is to discuss the most characteristic problems faced in teaching morphemics of standard Lithuanian to students of Lithuanian philology. The experience of the author of the article allows concluding that the most frequent mistakes that future philologists make have to do with the formal approach towards the morphemic structure of the language and that students find it difficult to differentiate between derivational affixes and grammatical affixes. The most common mistakes are as follows: 1) confusing morphemes by function, i. e. students fail to differentiate between derivational morphemes (affixes) and inflectional ones; 2) inappropriate identification of the boundaries of morphemes (in pronouns and pronominal forms in particular; 3) incorrect completion of derivational analysis of verbs.
