ENThe author outlines the research of Lithuanian dialects in Poland, lists the scientists and briefly discusses their achievements in the field of dialects. The linguists began to be interested in the dialects in the sixties of the 20lh century. The first study was conducted by Tamara Buch (UW). Later, W Smoczyński (a student of T. Buch, from UJ) followed in her steps. Michał Hasiuk from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań collected Lithuanian texts from the area of north-eastern Poland in 1966-1991. His recordings can be regarded as unique, because he collected texts in western Aukštaitija dialect, which is now practically non-existent in the territory. Michał Hasiuk’s students of the Lithuanian language also collected the texts in dialects. Nijolė Kolytė-Birgelienė and Danutė Roszko have written a number of articles on the Lithuanian speech and dialects in Suvalkai region. Linguists from Lithuanian also studied Lithuanian dialects in Poland, especially in 1988-1989. The extensive studies were organized and Lithuanian dialects from Punskas and Seinai regions were recorded. It is necessary to name some of the linguist who devoted a lot of work to the studies of the dialects: Aloyzas Vidugiris, Laima Grumadienė, Kazys Morkūnas, Kazimieras Garšva, Birutė Mikalonienė. There are 8 masters’ theses on the subject of Lithuanian dialects in Poland at Lithuanian universities. [From the publication]
