ENAll the writers and the themes of the present collection of articles are connected with Lithuania Minor (Prussian Lithuania) and the Königsberg region. German historian Simon Grunau used the notion Lithuania Minor. One could guess that the attribute "minor" appeared and became established trying to separate the name of this province from the name of the Great Dukedom of Lithuania. Lithuania Minor has been part of the German state for approximately seven centuries. Two cultures interacted here: Lithuanian and German. They determined the written language of this region. Both of those cultures developed in the place of Prussian culture. The state border established in 1422 between the Great Dukedom of Lithuania and the German Order became the borderline between the Minor and the great Lithuania. These ethnic parts of Lithuania had been separated by religion since 16th century. Lutheran religion took over in Lithuania Minor together with the German culture. Over here the conditions for the written language to develop were better than in the Great Lithuania all the way up the 20th century. During certain periods like 18th century the input of Lithuania Minor into the common Lithuanian culture was even bigger than that of the Great Lithuania. The past of the Prussians and Lithuanians interested not only the German historians but also writers. Almost half of the articles included in the present book are based on German written sources, mostly fiction. Those articles are presented based not on the time they were written but on the chronology of their themes and interrelations. [...].
