Žodis žodyne – būti ar nebūti? : keletas naujadarų aiškinamuosiuose latvių kalbos žodynuose

ENThis article is focusing on some neologisms that have appeared in the Latvian language during 2003-2013. [...] Their usage and status in the language is analyzed, taking into account the data of two most recent Latvian explanatory dictionaries - "Mūsdienu latviešu valodas vārdnica" (Dictionary of Modern Latvian) and "Skaidrojosā vārdnica" (Explanatory Dictionary). Summing up the materials, it became clear that some of the words have become a part of the active vocabulary and found their place in the above-mentioned dictionaries. Some other words have attained a similar status but, due to various reasons, have not yet entered the dictionaries, while some others are in a certain borderline status - their usage is irregular, and their place in dictionaries is still under question. [...] Since the majority of the widely used neologisms have not been coined by linguists, the process of the creation and introduction of these words in the language cannot be controlled. However, one cannot ignore the fact that the linguistic preferences of language users and the acception or rejection of a word is a subjective and unpredictable process. [From the publication]
