ENOver the four decades the restorers of the Documents Conservation and Restoration Department of the Wróblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences conserved and restored almost 3,400 documents from the holdings of the Rare Book and the Manuscript Departments, including printed and manuscript books, manuscripts, parchments, periodicals, cartographic publications, ephemera etc. The restoration activities of the department cover the following areas: chemical and instrumental investigation of the document materials; research of bound documents: binding technologies as well as the preservation and restoration of damaged documents; research of unbound documents including the preservation and restoration of the damaged documents; parchment preservation and restoration; examination and preservation of seals on the documents. Every year about 1,300 documents from the Main and Rare Book Department holdings and other holdings of the Wróblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences are prepared for stacks and further usage.
