LTStraipsnyje aptariama „Słownik języka polskiego XVII i 1. połowy XVIII wieku“ (XVII ir XVIII amžiaus pirmosios pusės lenkų kalbos žodynas) (SXVII) sudarymo istorija ir svarbiausios jo redaktorių nuostatos. Šio tyrimo autoriai atkreipia dėmesį j pokyčius, įvykusius žodyne po to, kai jis buvo suskaitmenintas ir tapo prieinamas tik elektronine forma internete. Antrojoje straipsnio dalyje išsamiai aptariama 1601-1764 metais įprasta kitų žodynų panaudojimo SXVII žodyno sudarymui metodika. Tyrimas atskleidė gana skirtingus šiuolaikinių leksikografų ir viduriniosios lenkų kalbos specialistų požiūrį į iš senų viduriniosios lenkų kalbos žodynų surinktą medžiagą. Šie skirtumai yra daugiausia susiję su metodologinėmis žodynų medžiagos problemomis. Jų atsirado dėl to, kad XVII ir XVIII amžių žodynai buvo daugiausia dvikalbiai ar daugiakalbiai, todėl iki galo nėra aišku, ar šiuolaikiniame istoriniame žodyne reikėtų cituoti užsienio kalbos tekstų fragmentus iš senųjų žodynų. Straipsnyje taip pat aptariama kalbos faktų interpretavimo, kurio imasi senųjų žodynų sudarytojai, problema; mėginama atsakyti į klausimą, ar šiuolaikiniai leksikografai turėtų laikytis seniesiems žodynams būdingo reikšmių pateikimo būdo. ENThe paper starts out by discussing the history of the compilation of the "Słownik języka polskiego XVII i 1. połowy XVIII wieku" (Dictionary of the Polish Language of the 17th and the First Half of the 18th Century) (SXVII) and its most important editorial assumptions. The focus of the authors of the present paper is on the changes in the dictionary which were introduced after it appeared and became accessible exclusively in an electronic form (on-line). The second, a more substantial part, of the paper introduces the method of use of other dictionaries employed in the development of SXVII in 1601-1764. The investigation has revealed rather different attitudes of present-day lexicographers and researchers of middle Polish towards the material collected from the old dictionaries of middle Polish. The differences are mostly due to methodological problems concerned with the material of the dictionaries, especially because the dictionaries of the 17th and 18th centuries were bi- or multilingual, and it is not entirely clear whether a modern historical dictionary should quote foreign language fragments of the entries from old dictionaries. The paper also discusses the problem of the interpretation of language facts as presented by the authors of old dictionaries - such as whether the way of defining meanings in old dictionaries should be adopted by the present-day lexicographer. Another fact which seems to be worth discussing is concerned with the presentation of the material in the old dictionaries, which enables the researcher to identify lexical units and, no less importantly, to determine or specify their semantic characteristics and grammatical and stylistic features.
