ENMicrotoponyms were collected in Joniškis district’s Skaistgirys surroudings in 1996-1998. They were divided into two groups: the microtoponyms of natural objects (names of fields, forests, meadows, scrubs) and the microtoponyms of man-made objects (names of roads, graveyards, streets and other objects). The most popular type of microtoponyms derivation is a composite genitive derivation in Skaistgirys surroudings. The derivation from the place names is specific for microtoponyms of the man-made objects. The man-made objects and their location are important for the whole community. The derivation from the personal names is specific to microtoponyms of the natural objects. In this case, there is important individual dependence of such objects. Primary microtoponyms name mostly the natural objects, too. They may give more information about the origin of the object. [From the publication]
