ENThe scientific interests and activities of Žeimelis middle school English language teacher Juozas Šliavas were rather wide. He was interested in local lore studies, archaeology, history, linguistics, museology, worked in the field of ethnography. This paper is devoted only to his archaeological investigations which can be divided into three parts: 1) the search for archaeological monuments, their inspecting and scientific fixing; 2) the accumulation of archaeological handicraft wares and the establishment of school museum; 3) the publication of archaeological investigations. [...] J. Šliavas’ investigations were of inspecting character - the monument’s site fixing, cartographing, measuments, descriptions, photographing, collecting of accidental finds and information presented by local population, putting down the legends. Having gathered quite a few of archaeologal handicraft wares from the monuments under research, local population and scloolchildren, in 1959 J. Šliavas established a museum at the middle school of Žeimelis where later he accumulated objects of ethnographical, historical and cultural heritage. He applied modem at that time museology methods - metrics forming, registration, informative and visual exhibition. For some time this museum was the richest and best managed museum in the whole area of North Lithuania. J. Šliavas announced 21 publications on his archaeological research in popular scientific press. They distinguish themselves for their problematicity, coordination of various scientific data, the application of scientific research methods, an original approach towards North Middle Lithuania’s prehistory and historical development. Now J. Šliavas’ arcaeological research results are used by the representatives of different fields of science, museologists and the society. [From the publication]
