EN[...] Two circumstances affected a spreading of social Catholicism ideas in Lithuania. First of all, Lithuanian Catholic intellectuals within their studies at universities of Western Europe had an opportunity to get a better acquaintance with the ideas of social Catholicism, liked them and tried to inform the Lithuanian society on these ideas as wide as possible through press. Secondly, the Lithuanian authorities of the Catholic Church maintained restrained attitude in respect with the tautininkai and their whimsical policy restricting unreasonably the activities of Church. This encouraged the young catholic intellectuals (such as A. Maceina, P. Jakas, S. Yla and others), to pay special attention to the problems that were known to the Church, but it was not ready to discuss them publicly. The young generation catholic intellectuals took a view that if the church would develop a need of conscious authentic religion in people, it would form prerequisites for a realization of social justice, formation of conditions ensuring spiritual and material welfare of a human. The realization of such humaneness depends on spiritual and social maturity of a person, which is inseparable from religiousness, deepness of believing attested in the best way by acting upon the Gospel in everyday life. So, only society’s religious renaissance which may be encouraged by the Church - self- renovated and open to the challenges of time - makes it possible to create such a system which serves to a human and his spiritual and social expression.
