ENThe article tells about Lithuanian toy maker Klemensas Misiūnas (1885-1970). At the beginning of the 20th century he made various wooden toys at home and sold them himself. Misiūnas was born at Juodupė village (Panevėžys district). He was a tailor. Being 29 years old he became blind. After that he began to earn his bread by making toys. Misiūnas made mechanical (moving) toys: little mills with moving figures, smiths, sportsmen, houses for playing with dolls, puzzles (made from sticks). His toys are characterized by new ideas in construction and interesting personages. We can notice motifs and ornaments of Lithuanian folk art in the decoration of his toys. Misiūnas made such toys for children, which developed their technical skills, imagination and taste. They present the daily round of old Lithuanian village, values and attitude of its people, their world-view that has close contact with nature. Nowadays these criteria are important for good toy too.
