ENThe main goals of the authors of the suggested project regard researching acculturation strategies and the factors of choosing the particular strategies. This is the basis of our nearest empirical research in Lithuania, for which the attached questionnaires were created (see Appendix). However, instead of a formal document, we chose to design a little broader research program that maps out the most significant issues in ethnic processes to be researched from our point of view. Thus, hypotheses are presented in extensive and general rather than limited technical way; it is an invitation for all who encounter ethnic problems to search for arguments, either pro or contra, and in this way join the effort to improve our knowledge on ethnicity in our societies. While this text applies for Lithuania, it is treated as the first stage of the project. The second includes realisation of analogous research program in Latvia and in Moscow, both of which are very specific contexts where ethnicity matters. The cross-national comparison on this basis should open a new look at the acculturation researches done, and in our intention, would contribute to theoretical and methodological development in the research of ethnic processes in East European region. [...] The goal of this project is the analysis of changing social and cultural status of the ethnic minority groups. The changes in this status relate to disintegration of Soviet system and intensive post-communist social change after the re-establishment of the state independence. However, the decade of statehood has almost gone, and it is the time to question not merely political loyalty, but the problems of social and cultural organisation of minorities. The basic queries of the project are how adaptation of ethnic minority members goes on, what are results of competition in economy and culture politics, and where the minority members situate themselves in the new social structure.
