ENThe patient's psychological readiness for rehabilitation has so far resulted in the lack of attention. This study has raised the question of the impact of psychological readiness to physical therapy to two possible factors: physically active lifestyle and the patient's personality traits. Four hypotheses have been formulated: 1) the patient's age and gender are correlated with the psychological readiness for physical therapy; 2) there is a significant relation between the patient's self-efficacy and motivation for physical therapy; 3) physically active lifestyle is correlated with the psychological readiness for physical therapy; 4) awareness and extroversion are positively and neuroticism is negatively correlated with psychological readiness. 58 participants were interviewed (average age - 51.34), 33 of them were in the rehabilitation settings after physical trauma, and for the rest knee or hip arthroplasty was performed. For this study a special questionnaire was developed, which consisted of scales for self-efficacy, motivation, and physically active lifestyle, and the personality questionnaire NEO PI-R was applied. Self-efficacy was mildly associated with motivation though demographic characteristics played no role in this relationship. The psychological readiness for physical therapy and physically active lifestyle is characterized by a positive correlation only among younger patients. Influence of personal traits on psychological readiness remains somewhat unclear. [From the publication]
