ENThe matriculation certificate of Tartu (Dorpat, Yuryev) University, as well as archival documents and literary sources show the absolute number of students from Lithuania who attended this university. The annual enrolment dynamics of students from Lithuania in Tartu University, their nationality, birthplace, distribution according to specialization, and workplace are discussed in the article. Enrolment of Lithuanian students in Tartu University began in 1805. Since 1822 from several to several dozens of students from Lithuania annually enrolled there. In 1805-1918 - 1,438 students entered the university (in 1802-1860 - 303 students (or 21%), in 1861-1905 - 702 (49%), in 1906-1918 - 432 (30%)). The overwhelming majority of students from Lithuania enrolled in 1906-1910. Before the abolishment of serfdom students of the privileged classes constituted 59%, in 1861-1905 - 44%, and in 1906-1918 - 35%. Students from the peasant class and burghers constituted the majority after the abolishment of serfdom. At the same time the number of students of Lithuanian nationality increased. The majority of students from Lithuania studied medicine and law. More than a half of the students who graduated in 1802-1880 returned to Lithuania. The rest remained to work in Russia, Latvia, Byelorussia, Poland, Estonia, and other countries. More nationals of Latvia and Byelorussia arrived in Lithuania after graduation. [From the publication]
