ENThe article attempts to describe rural population, agricultural workers and other various rural occupations, because the prevalent opinion in Lithuania in that too much population is occupied in a sphere of agriculture - a fifth or a third of occupied population. But it is not precise evaluation of the proportion. Rural population make up a third of Lithuanian population. In agriculture there is occupied one fifth of Lithuanian occupied population. But a number of skilled agricultural and fishery workers, according to ISCO [1], is smaller. In this issue there is used a description of "skilled agricultural and fishery workers" group as one of nine groups of occupation according to ISCO. The group includes occupations that require knowledge and experience necessary to produce farm, forestry and fishery products. Among all occupied farmers only 2 % are younger than 30 years old, 62% are 60 years old and older, 82% are 50 years old and older. Too little number of young skilled agricultural and fishery workers in such agricultural country as Lithuania constitutes a problem. [From the publication]
