ENVery few women in Lithuania are involved in politics or top-level administration. The main aim of the study is to reveal the relation between changes of the attitudes of Lithuanians towards political participation of women and their voting behaviour in the elections. The study is based on comparative analysis of the results of two national representative surveys conducted in 1994 and 2000. The analysis of the survey results and dynamics of women's political participation shows that people of Lithuania are indifferent to women's participation in politics and government, and, in principle, their opinion has not changed in the period from 1994 to 2000, thus, it has not influenced women's success or failure in the elections held within this period. No radical means to increase the number of women in politics and government would be accepted by the population of Lithuania. [From the publication]
