Summary / Abstract:

LTŠiame tyrime iš naujo gvildenamas lietuvių kalbos tarmių priegaidžių (šįkart ilgųjų balsių) skyrimo klausimas. Pasitelkus eksperimentinę medžiagą iš šiaurinių žemaičių telšiškių tarmės, bandyta užčiuopti koreliacinius akustinių požymių (balsių trukmės ir pagrindinio tono) ryšius ir jais grįsti priegaidžių diferenciaciją. Įvairiais rakursais palyginus turimus duomenis, pastebėta, kad ilgųjų balsių kiekybė ir pagrindinio tono kitimo staigumas nėra savarankiški parametrai. Panaudotoji matematinė duomenų analizavimo alternatyva atskleidė, kad balsių trukmė yra atvirkščiai proporcinga santykiniam tono kitimo staigumui (kuo balsio trukmė didesnė, tuo kitimas yra lėtesnis, ir priešingai, – kuo trukmė mažesnė, tuo kitimas staigesnis). Pastebėtos tendencijos verifikuotos ir statistinės analizės rodiklių. Galutinai įsitikinta, kad cirkumfleksinė šiaurinių žemaičių priegaidė pagrįstai mokslininkų nuo seno vadinama tęstine (dėl lėtesnio tono kitimo), o akūtinė – staigine (dėl intensyvesnės tono kitimo dinamikos).Reikšminiai žodžiai: Akustinis požymis; Kirčiuoto balsio kokybė; Koreliacinė formulė; Praat; Priegaidė; Prozodija; Tarmė; Tonas; Trukmė; Acoustic feature; Correlation formula; Dialect; Duration; Pitch; Praat; Prosody; Quantity of the accented vowel; Syllable tone; Tone.

ENThis research aims to answer an old and interesting question: which measurable prosodic features constitute the audible distinction of Lithuanian syllable tones. The main task of our investigation was to reveal whether or not there was a correlation between the quantity of the accented vowel and the velocity of change of the vowel pitch (a prosodic feature also known as pitch movement or pitch velocity).The mathematical method applied in this research demonstrated a considerable influence of vowel duration on the relative pitch velocity: the tone rises or falls relatively slower in longer vowels and more intensively in shorter ones. The establishing of this dependence opens up new perspectives for interpreting Lithuanian syllable tones. Our more general conclusion is that using relative values derived from measured prosodic parameters is a more reliable method to demonstrate the distinction of syllable tones than using absolute values. Our hypothesis was also confirmed by statistical analysis. The material for this research was collected from the North Žemaitian dialect of the Lithuanian language. Our analysis reveals that there is a demonstrable distinction between the circumflex and the acute tones in this dialect: the circumflex can be defined as a level tone with relatively slower pitch movement, and the acute, as a steep, rude tone with more intense tonal velocity.
