ENThe well known American linguist, balticist and slavicist William R. Schmalstieg has discussed in this book a huge number of studies on Old Prussian published all over the world during the period considered. No sector of the investigation on this language remained out of his critical review as one can easily see from the table of contents: editions, orthography and phonology, morphology, vocabulary, syntax, shorter texts, revival of the language, place names, personal names, relationships with other languages. The present book could also even been read as a story or a novel, the story of the discussion about a very intriguing Baltic kleincorpussprache - the Old Prussian language. Actually W.R. Schmalstieg displays under his reader's eyes a choral discussion alive among the many scholars from different countries who investigated Old Prussian during the last forty years, with all its affirmations and replies, with afterthoughts, reevaluations, and the appearance of new hypotheses. The narrator being auctor in fabula that is at the same time one of the most active participants in that discussion. This is a work of high level both quantitatively and qualitatively. Completeness and accuracy are the two words by which one could summarize the character of the present book.
