ENA Canadian Lithuanian who writes his novels in English, Antanas Šileika has published a novel titled Underground that deals with the fates of Lithuania as told from the perspective of guerrilla fighters after WW II. Šileika got interested in Lithuania and Lithuanianness when we started to invite him to the meetings of Santara-Šviesa to give talks on the life of emigrees. It was in these meetings that Šileika learned about the deeds of Lithuanian guerrilla fighters and their dedication to fight for Lithuania‘s freedom in order to stop the Red Plague taking over the country. Antanas became so „hot“ that he delved into hundreds of documents and stories of guerrilla life, their romantic attachment to their native land, their horrors and fates, their hopes to see Lithuania independent. The book was eventually translated and now published in Lithuania. [From the publication]
