ENFlipping through the pages of Lithuanian newspapers published before the First World War, texts by a man from Panevėžys, written under strange Skyrėjas (Skirėjas, Skirejas) pseudonym, got my attention. They were not often present, but were concrete and informative; the author clearly was a participant of events. He could be characterized as wishing Lithuanian and Polish peoples to cooperate. He assured that his activities were guided by the general values without giving priority to one or another nation. Kozakevičius’ personal views on the relations between the peoples among other Lithuanians were peculiar; other Lithuanians did not spread publicly the ideas of Lithuanian and Polish nations being on good terms in Panevėžys at the time. In Juozapas Kozakevičius reminiscences “Amžiaus kronika” (Chronicle of the century) found texts signed by a pseudonym J. K. Skirėjas allow to specify the reference book “Lithuanian Pseudonyms” and to show that this pseudonym does not belong to priest Juozapas Kozakevičius, but to a public figure from Panevėžys Juozapas Kozakevičius. It extends the knowledge of this public figure, allows access to his views and attitudes till the First World War and enriches the history of Panevėžys. [From the publication]
