ENThe article is written to outline a book by Vydūnas – "Septyni šimtmečiai vokiečių ir lietuvių santykių" ("Seven Hundred Years of German-Lithuanian relations"). It is noted that the reality of life is understood, by individuals and nations alike, not only by the mind, but by the heart as well, to a greater or lesser extent, depending on their characters. The author also chose to be guided by it in this outline of the book. The article described his acquaintanceship with Vydūnas, technical help with Vydūnas' book publishing, the work on a German translation of the book and nuances of separate word translations. According to the author of the article, never before has there been a book that characterized the Baltic nations, especially the Lithuanians and the Prussians, so accurately and comprehensively. That became possible only because the thinking of Vydūnas was free from any schemes, independent in its decisions and intuitively perceptive. Although the book may appear strange to a shallow reader used to traditional models of thought, this exact style and presentation of thought allowed Vydūnas to understand and visualize the whole complexity of his chosen problem. It is noted that this work is not an ordinary review of historical and contemporary Lithuanian-German relations, inspired by preconceived attitudes and clichés of national thought. It is a work full of respect for both nations, also revealing the spirituality of the author and the great culture of the Baltic people. Vydūnas deeply understood the essence of the German spirit. It is concluded that Vydūnas' book is not only a treasure of Lithuanian and German cultures, but a value for the whole world.
