ENEmpowering community organization strategies for the resocialization of imprisonment returnees are revealed in the article. There is a barrier between imprisonment returnees and society. Therefore such persons often fall apart, start self intoxication and reoffends. Therefore, it is needed to support them spiritually, to stimulate self-confidence and belief in their inner power. Empowerment, invoking community, is an effective and successful way to help those people in resocialization process. Imprisoned and imprisonment returnees consider to be one of the most vulnerable groups to social exclusion. About 13 per cent of imprisonment returnees have no place to live, their social ties are broken. The resocialization of imprisoned, possibilities for community empowerment in imprisonment as precondition for more successful life after imprisonment, the role of empowering community for imprisonment returnees, all these issues become increasing challenge. Such persons, having no place to live, often return back to imprisonment. 8550 persons have been sentenced, and the number of imprisoned reached 9729 in 2012. Comparing to 2011, the number of repeated offences increased 25 per cent. This data indicates that research is needed to pay more attention to alternative possibilities of resocialization, helping an imprisonment returnee to return into society and not to commit crime again. In this article it is focused on empowering communities working with imprisonment returnees and making a significant impact on their resocialization. A number of foreign and Lithuanian scholars explored community support, which promotes communication skills, enhance self-confidence, deals with feelings of loneliness, social isolation problems. The object of the article is empowering community in the resocialization of imprisonment returnees.The aim of the article is to disclose empowering community organization strategies for the resocialization of imprisonment returnees. The field research was carried out in March – April 2013. It was based on qualitative research methodology. A semi-structured interview instrument was applied to find out the opinions and experience of respondents on the issue under investigation. Content analysis method was applied to make the data interpretation. A questionnaire consisted of such question groups: referring to community causes, empowering activities in the community, the community strategies. 4 leaders of empowerment communities and 4 members (clients – imprisonment returnees) of empowerment communities took part in the study. The study revealed the key trends of empowerment community organization strategies. These are teamwork, networking, provision of social services and education. By providing social services by social work principle of teamwork, as well as teaching them together and allowing members of the community to come together and interact with each other, the community effectively resocializes imprisonment returnees. The inner changes of empowerment community members are also determined by empowerment technologies. The data analysis also revealed a number of negative consequences as a result of the imprisonment and confirmed the hypothesis that resocialization of imprisonment returnees is more successful in empowering community than in imprisonment places. During the resocialization in empowerment community, people living there, are changing their behavior and attitudes towards values if they get a sincere response to their needs. [From the publication]
