ENArticle analyses and evaluates the changes in teachers' attitudes towards studying at school. The interest is oriented to the changes in motivation to get higher grade in the context of the alteration in the shifting socium. The research was performed in 1988/89 - 1994/95 and in 2001/02 -2003/04. Respondents were secondary school teachers from different districts. The study has showed the teachers' assurance in students' feasibility to spend more time for their primary activity - study. The motivation to get better results is a problem typical in the second level of school education: every third respondent has a strong opinion. They consider that only half of the students in V-IX-X classes are working seriously, assiduously and willingly. During the research period the shifting socium had insignificantly influenced the situation: the turning points were in 1990/91 and in 1994/95. Regain of Lithuanian Independence and the attitude towards true values in our society have induced these turning points. 1995th was the start-up year for our education system in the period of improvement the quality of social system. The strongest motivation to get higher results was among students in first and third level of education system. Among the first level students this attitude was formed in family and supported by teacher's personality. Among the third level students this attitude was influenced by competition to get preferable profession. The students who have lost their motivation often do not enter the third level of education system. [From the publication]
