LTŠioje ekonominėje ir socialinėje apžvalgoje aprašomi Lietuvos regionai – apskritys. Leidinyje skelbiami apibendrinti ir palyginti 2001–2005 m. duomenys įvairiomis temomis, išryškinant naujausių statistinių tyrimų atskleistus paskutinių metų ypatumus ir tendencijas. „Lietuvos regionų portretas“ – vienas iš nedaugelio Lietuvos regionus apibūdinančio enciklopedinio pobūdžio leidinių. Vertingi tiek analitine, tiek pažintine prasme leidinio straipsniai parengti remiantis Statistikos departamento informacija apie regionų demografinę, ekonominę, socialinę, žemės ūkio, užimtumo, švietimo ir gyventojų sveikatos padėtį. ENThis economic and social review describes Lithuanian regions—counties. The publication provides summarized and compared data for 2001–2005 on various topics by underlining peculiarities and tendencies revealed by the most up to date statistical researches. The Portrait of Lithuanian Regions is one of the few encyclopaedia-type publications describing Lithuanian regions. Articles of the publication—which were written on the basis of information regarding demographic, economic, social, agricultural, employment, educational, and health care situation of the regions, which was received from the Department of Statistics—are valuable both analytically and cognitively. The publication also provides historic, geographic, and cultural review of Lithuanian regions and is illustrated with maps, heraldic, photographs, statistical tables, graphs, and diagrams. We are hoping that the publication will be beneficial to those making decisions regarding to regional development and aiming to purposefully utilize the existing state budget and EU fund resources for specialists—internal as well as external investors—searching for conditions to initiated and develop their own business. The publication should be interesting to everyone who wants to learn more about Lithuania and takes interest in the history, present developments, and perspectives of their native or other regions.
