ENAnalyzing the essence of sustainable development, first of all we analyze the main principles, which emphasize partnership and accountability, active participation and clearness, systemic view, relation with future, equality and justice, ecological restriction, relation between local and global measure, local importance. Thus sustainable development is development of the society, which makes an opportunity to obtain global welfare for present and future generations combining environment protection, economic and social purposes of society and do not breaking the allowable limits of an impact for environment. Social, economic and physic condition of the region is possible to evaluate quantifiably and qualitatively by certain indicators. We exclude three groups of users of harmonious indicators: scientists, politicians and society. Scientific literature gives various requirements for harmonious indicators. Lithuanian national sustainable development strategy set 78 indicators of sustainable development for implementation of monitoring. There are three main groups (environment condition, economical development, social development) and indicators of region development. After identification of main principles of sustainable development and analization of theoretical dimensions of strategic planning, it is possible to state, that sustainable strategic planning must involve a group of indicators of sustainable development, i.e. in certain stages of preparation of strategic plan we must consider the groups of indicators of sustainable development.
