ENArticle investigates national wealth description and measurement issues as an integral part of the sustainable development assessment. National Wealth, as every other macroeconomic term, is a complex systematic category, combining economic, social, legal, geographical and other factors of wealth formation, disposition and use. Terminology itself suggests a broad variety, e.g. the concept of National wealth used by Lithuanian statistic services not always clearly expresses what is defined as "Assets" , "Worth" in the system of national accounts. The country asset valuation is cvem more different when using "Wealth of nation" terminology by the World Bank or the term "National Wealth" used by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development . The review of the works by Lithuanian and international authors suggests that it is still not clear how objective and unambiguous measurement of national wealth of the country should be carried out. The national wealth definition suggested provides an opportunity to reveal not only accumulated resources, but also exposes a real potential of the country and the path for sustainable development. The economy's power and capacities could be measured using different methodologies and numerous macro indicators.Article analyses the application of two methodologies – National Account System and World Bank wealth measuring, and the results obtained for Lithuania and other transition economics. Wealth measurements for Lithuania, Baltic and other EU countries are presented as well as macro indicators comparing national wealth structure and utilization issues are analysed. The performed research creates a framework for estimation of efficiency of national wealth utilization and its shifts in a set of EU countries. [From the publication]
