ENThe article overviews the major methodologies principles, landmarks and conclusions of the qualitative research "Social picture of country school". The research had been carried out in three country schools of different type, using interview of focus groups and deep interview as a tool. In the analysis of the material collected in the course of the research, theoretical assumptions of structural functionalism were used. The conclusion was that apart from the function of socialisation as a traditional function of education, country school also carries out a set of functions (social guardianship, provision of employment, social control as well as the function of "selection"), which together with the aforementioned function of socialisation represent the specific features of country school.
