ENThe development of the internet and telecommunication technologies allowed the emerging of a new type of trade - electronic trade. Although most customers all over the world purchase via internet, the electronic trade in Lithuania started being popular only in the latter years. The electronic trade, which attracts increasing attention, causes the most considerable concerns to the entrepreneurs trading in a traditional way. They have to cope with new competitors of unequal power, try to adapt their business to the new needs of customers and to maintain their clients. In order to establish the advantages and disadvantages of electronic and stationary shops, the peculiarities of purchasing domestic appliances were selected for estimation, because essential differences between stationary and electronic trade are distinguished, when buying fancy and expensive commodities. The goal of the research is the comparative analysis of stationary and electronic shops selling domestic appliances at the standpoint of customers. For performance of the research, a quantitative investigation was selected by using the method of a questionnaire survey. The obtained results of the research showed that three forth of the respondents purchased domestic appliances in stationary shops, because they relied more on this form of sale and had the possibility to try and buy the commodity on the same day.One fourth of the respondents, who have selected electronic shops, valued a lower price and the advantages of the process of buying on the internet such as an opportunity to buy at any time without leaving your home. Because four fifths of the respondents faced certain difficulties, when buying on the internet, it can be concluded that the operation of electronic shops contains a lot of gaps, which must be corrected by electronic shops, if they want to attract more buyers. Meanwhile, stationary shops can use these disadvantages in order to maintain their clients. [Text from author]
