ENThe purpose of the study is to assess the relationship between health locus of control and health promoting behaviour, as well as to assess gender and direction of studies related differences regarding health locus of control and health promoting behaviour. Health locus of control beliefs and health promoting behaviour was examined in a group of 264 Kaunas Medical University (KMU) and Kaunas Technological University (KTU) male and female students. Participants completed a questionnaire which included the Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scale (Walston K. et al., 1994), and questions about health promoting behaviour. The latter questions were created by the authors of the study. Results of the survey showed that male students had stronger external chance health locus of control than female students. Male students from KTU had a stronger external chance health locus of control than male students from KMU. Female students indicate more health promoting behaviour than male ones, but male students from KMU indicate more health promoting behaviour than male students from KTU. Health promoting behaviour and internal health locus of control had stronger relationship in KTU and KMU female students group. Unhealthy behaviour and external health locus of control had stronger relationship in KTU and KMU male students group.
