ENThe article is devoted to empirical research of multimodal freight transport companies in three selected countries, namely the USA, Norway and Lithuania. The purpose of this study is to conduct a survey among freight transport companies in the three chosen countries in order to establish the factors influencing the efficiency of marketing logistics systems which acquired the form of total costs management, customer needs satisfaction and creation of value. The methodology of freight transport market has been proposed and practically applied in the cases in the USA, Norway and Lithuania, which enabled to compare these countries in the above-mentioned spectrum of marketing logistics system, determining dominating efficiency factors. As a result of this study, certain similarities and peculiarities of multimodal freight transportation in the USA, Norway and Lithuania have been pointed out. It has been discovered that the multimodal freight system in the USA has the dual nature - that of national and international freight movement, while the Norwegian freight flows are oriented towards international routes, and Lithuania has established itself as a country, practising in international and transit freight carriage. The author of this article is positive that her theoretical input and empirical findings can serve as a tool for further theoretical modelling of multimodal freight transportation in a marketing logistics system.
