ENForeign and Belarusian historiography have analysed only several aspects about canon law in Protestantism. Scholars paid their attention mostly to general history of this religion. Protestantism appeared in the GDL from Europe in the first half of the 16th century. Martin Luther’s and Joan Calvin’s ideas were accepted here but with local specific. That illustrated the catechism by Symon Budny. Unification of ceremonies (wedding ceremony, too) in Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and, of course in this Grand Duchy of Lithuania) were made in special book that was printed in 1637. Marriage was not a sacrament for Protestantism. It had such functions as procreation; rescue a person from loneliness, preservation from temptation. A husband and a wife should be together in all situations. A husband should exemplify for a wife. But if family life was impossible because of illness, conjugal infidelity and other reasons divorce was allowed. Synod examined all cases that were connected with marriage and family.
