Senosios Lietuvos istorija 1009-1795

LTKnygoje „Senoji Lietuvos istorija“ aprėpiamas XI–XVIII a. laikotarpis; prasideda ji pasakojimu apie „karaliaus“ Netimero krikštą, o baigiama Lietuvos ir Lenkijos valstybės sunaikinimo 1795 m. siužetu. Tačiau šios knygos objektas pirmiausia (priešingai nei įprasta) yra ne valstybė, o visuomenė, todėl siekiama pateikti kuo įvairesnę visuomenės panoramą (socialinis, tautinis, konfesinis, kultūrinis įvairumas). Visa tai bandoma parodyti bendrame Europos bei regiono kontekste. Lietuvos visuomenės vietos Europos kontekste paieškos nulėmė ir kiek kitokį knygoje pristatomą istorijos modelį bei „trinarę“ periodizaciją: Lietuva dar ne Europoje (pagonybės epocha), europėjanti Lietuva (XV–XVI a.) ir Lietuva – barokinės Europos dalis (XVII–XVIII a.). Ši knyga – pirmas bandymas pateikti iliustruotą Lietuvos Didžiosios Kunigaikštijos istorijos sintezę, kas savo ruožtu leidžia skaitytojui kartu pažinti istorinės kartografijos, heraldikos, sfragistikos, dailės ir kt. sričių paminklus. Dalis vaizdų pirmą kartą pateko į Lietuvos istorijos sintezę, o kai kurių net nebuvo Lietuvos istorijos mokslo akiratyje. ENThe book Senoji Lietuvos istorija covers the period between the 11th and the 18th century; it starts with the story of baptism of “King” Netimeras and ends with the narrative about the destruction of the Lithuanian and Polish Commonwealth in 1795. However, the object of this book, first and foremost, is society rather than the state, therefore it is sought to present as much as possible diverse panorama of society (the social, national, confessional and cultural diversity). Attempts were made to show all that within a general context of Europe and the region. Searches for the place of Lithuania’s society within the European context determined a somewhat different model of history presented in the book, as well as a “trinomial” development process: Lithuania is not in Europe yet (the epoch of paganism), Lithuania that is becoming Europeanised (the 15th –the 16th century) and Lithuania – a part of baroque Europe (the 17th – the 18th century). This book is the first attempt to present an illustrated synthesis of the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, which, in its turn, allows the reader to come to know monuments of historical cartographies, heraldry, sphragistics, art, etc. A part of images got into the synthesis of the history of Lithuania for the first time, and some of them have never been in the horizon of science of the history of Lithuania before. Images of the book are treated as iconographical sources rather than illustrations and their value is equalled to the value of documents.
