ENRussian language teaching to the Lithuanian language - background learners in an effective way of getting to know a different nation's mentality. The communicative approach in language teaching with its major focus on the general country study aspects and the sociocultural component of the communicative competence has somehow neglected literature - as the key component of the national spiritual culture. The country study - focused information that reaches the learner is often devoid of the specific and engaging context which can only be provided by a multi-faceted literary source. In this kind of situation some very important factors are missing, first of all - the spiritual encounter with the author, which does not allow the learner to establish emotional relationships that could be accepted as true facts of life. In this way, the intricate space of another nation remains closed for the learner. The present article is an attempt to investigate the possibilities that can be revealed through an active dialogue with the literary text and its author. [From the publication]
