ENArticle analyzes development of skills to read informational texts in primary classes. Following the results of teachers' questionnaire survey and interview, certain didactic aspects regarding development of these skills are analyzed. It is stated that primary teachers exceptionally relate reading of informational texts with lessons of Lithuanian and surrounding world learning. A particular attention of teachers is laid on school learners' reading skills and their autonomy. Development of skills to read informational text is to great extent conditioned by habits and traditions of artistic text reading skills development, particularity of informational texts. School learners' reading needs are frequently ignored. The position of primary teachers regarding teaching to read informational texts may be referred to as passive: teachers do not teach but create conditions for school learners to read such texts, more frequently they use only informational texts presented in textbooks or rely on school learners' initiative. Striving for more evident development of informational text reading skills, it is necessary to focus on teaching to read informational texts, to relate these abilities with development of learning to learn competence, to search for interdisciplinary possibilities to develop such skills, to implement ideas of integrated education, to encourage teachers to assume a more active role in development of these skills.
