ENThe main focus of the paper is to explore the relationship between God and man in the book "Atrakinta" by the Lithuanian poet M.Martinaitis. In his earlier books the poet resorted to more pagan images, whereas Christian motifs were not too visible. The book under discussion differs from the earlier ones in that the dimension of Christianity in it is dominant. Man here is represented through his communication with the world and Transcendence. Special attention in this article is given to the messianic role of a poet. It is often assumed that it is only a poet who can reverse the world's development by trying to repeat the mission of Jesus Christ and to save people because art gives him a possibility to communicate with God. The image of Jesus Christ can be identified in many poems of the book. Sometimes He is not spoken about overtly and can be discerned only through the details or the warm ties that connect God and the dominant theme of the poem. The book discloses the process of how modern people search for and find God. The analysis of Martinaitis' poems demonstrates that people crave faith and that God forgives. The scale of human feelings changes from anger and fear to love and respect. To portray this basic alteration of the feelings was another aim of the paper. [text from author]
