ENThe studies basing on modem information and communication technologies (ICT) are becoming more popular in today's society. The application of virtual learning environment (VLE) in studies provides conditions for organization of fullfledged learning process due to various means of presentation of study materials and other information, communication and cooperation, conduction of assessment and self-assessment. The use of VLE in the course of learning allows individualizing maximally the learning process and motivating students' learning. It also gives an opportunity to check and assess knowledge without lecturer's help, to improve his / her attitude towards study subject. While doing homework by using computer one safes approximately one third of time intended for learning. On the other hand, computer learning may provide completely new opportunities of lecturer-student's activity and process of knowledge gaining. Such learning stimulates to learn more actively, concentrate attention, gain knowledge consciously and fast. VLE may be added with new components what allows students participating themselves in organization of learning process. The objective of this article – to review students' attitude to the benefit of VLE components use for studies. The Moodle (version 1.9.9+) system has been chosen for the research. This system corresponds with the standard SCORM 2004. In order to achieve goals one has chosen the method of questionnaire. The attitude of students of Faculties of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences of Šiauliai University was studied. They were given free-answer problematic questions. While analyzing students' answers the following criteria of assessment were determined: assessment of VLE components, VLE appropriateness in learning process, benefit of distant studies for students, advice for VLE improvement. One has determined that the VLE is assessed positively by both students of constant and extensive studies as it allows planning individually the time and pace of learning; theoretical material, tasks and opportunity to communicate with students were assessed as the best VLE components; interactive calendar. According to students, these components are necessary for successive studies as they are structurally well-prepared and corresponding with students' needs. The lack of direct students-lecturers' communication was named as the drawback of VLE. In order to compensate it one advised to organize in learning process more frequent synchronic communication (e.g. visual conferences and lectures). In order to improve the approach to environment one advised to unite VLE with Skype or Facebook systems. VLE should present as much visual environment as it is possible; part of it may be provided with sound recording (e.g. work with Moodle guide). [From the publication]
