ENDynamically changing environment, information society, innovation and creativity development in business make a crucial impact on working environment. These changes demand to educate a competitive specialist who is able to use information flows, is capable to communicate in international environment, ca think critically and solve problems. In this article the concept of the competence is analyzed, highlighting the importance of generic and professional competencies for preparing the specialist for the labour market. The aim of the research is to assess business management study programme graduates' competencies expression in practical activity. The carried out survey of employers and graduates showed the level of graduates' preparation to work in business environment and the ability to use gained and inherited competencies in practical activity. The results of the survey revealed that graduates evaluate their preparation for working rather good but they lack some competencies such as successful communication in business environment, accounting, recordkeeping, critical thinking. Employers suggest paying more attention to practical students' skills such as successful communication with clients, recordkeeping, preparation of financial documents and organization of office work. The results of the survey are significant for educating such business management generic and professional competencies which are necessary for the nowadays specialist. [From the publication]
