ENThe object of this work is the Lithuanian theme in the texts written in Polish. The book presents the diachronic characteristics of this importantliterary and culturalphenomenon (from theoldest times to the present), as well as an academic analysis of the work by outstanding individual authors. In recent decades (since about 1995) we have observed much livelier relations between Lithuanians and Poles - literary and cultural figures, historians, creators of art, and humanitarians in general - which connect them in various forms and on different levels. It is significant that this sphere has become an object of exhaustive academic analysis in Lithuania, and especially in Poland, which was earlier dominated by popular essayist reflections, travel impressions or the reminiscences of the repatriated residents of Vilnius permeated by hard personal feelings. The issues of the relations in Lithuanian-Polish history, cultures and literatures of both countries have become some of the central problems in the field of our humanities, because numerous factors of national Lithuanian identity are concentrated here. This is manifested by heated and, at times, opposing debates of historianst in recent times. In many cases, the interpretation of national relations is instrumental to the notion of Lithuanian national identity and historical existence (for instance, the problem of the divide between the old Lithuanians and the new Lithuanians), as well as to cultural and literary consciousness, its genesis and configurations.
