Development of competence - a challenge to the creators of the contents of education

LTStaigūs kultūriniai, politiniai, ekonominiai, ekologiniai pokyčiai vyksta mūsų šalyje ir pasaulyje. Švietimas negali nuo jų atsilikti, nes jaunus žmones turi parengti šioms permainoms. Laikotarpis reikalauja iš naujo permąstyti mokyklos tikslus, ką mokiniams svarbu išmokti, kokius gebėjimus ir nuostatas jiems reikia išsiugdyti ir kaip kinta mokytojo vaidmuo keičiantis ugdymo tikslams. Lietuvos valstybinės švietimo strategijos 2003–2012 metų nuostatose pabrėžiama, kad švietimas turi padėti asmeniui ir visuomenei atsakyti į naujus demokratijos, globalizacijos, informacijos gausos, rinkos ūkio plėtros iššūkius ir pasinaudoti atsiveriančiomis naujomis galimybėmis. Todėl kiekvienam svarbu suvokti šiuolaikinį pasaulį, įgyti kultūrinę bei socialinę kompetenciją ir būti savarankišku, veikliu, atsakingu žmogumi, norinčiu ir gebančiu nuolat mokytis bei kurti savo ir bendruomenės gyvenimą. Šalies ir Europos Sąjungos strateginiai švietimo dokumentai įpareigoja atnaujinti ir su naujomis asmens kompetencijomis susieti švietimo turinį, grindžiant jį ne tiek žinių perteikimu ir perėmimu, kiek jų analize, kritišku vertinimu ir praktiniu naudojimu, sieti su įvairių sričių gyvenimo problemų sprendimų paieška. ENSudden cultural, political, economic and ecological changes have been going on in our country and worldwide. Education cannot lag behind, because its mission is to prepare young people to address these changes. The epoch requires rethinking the aims of the school, what pupils should learn, what skills and provisions they have to develop and how the teacher’s role changes upon the change of education goals. The provisions of the Lithuanian National Education Strategy 2003–2012 underline that education has to help an individual and society to respond to the new challenges of democracy, globalisation, information abundance, market economy development and to use the new opening opportunities. Therefore, everybody needs to perceive modern world, acquire cultural and social competence and be an independent, active and responsible person who wants and is able to constantly learn and create his own and community’s life. The strategic education documents of the country and the European Union obligate to update and relate the education content with new personal competences, basing it on the analysis, critical evaluation and practical use of information rather than on communicating and taking over of information, and to associate it with the search for solutions to various life problems. The paper discusses the concepts of general skills and competences, analyses the possibilities of developing pupils’ competences in general education schools, reveals the directions of change in the education content when implementing the provisions of the National Education Strategy 2003–2012.
