Praeteritum frequentativum vēsture un funkcijas lietuviešu valodā

ENPraeteritum frequentativum is a specific form of verb with suffix -dav- which have developed in Lithuanian. The earliest texts and grammar-books of Lithuanian show that this form already functions in language at that time. Nevertheless the grammatical characterisation of praeteritum frequentativum is inconsistent and semantic functions of it are not investigated enough. Almost all grammar books and theoretical investigations ignore the link between time and aspect in the development of praeteritum frequentativum. This article is devoted to the analysis of temporal and aspectual meanings of praeteritum frequentativum, to the place of it in the hierarchy of Lithuanian tense forms. Questions of descent and distribution of praeteritum frequentativum are discussed, too. [text from author]
