LTStraipsnyje siekiama nustatyti ir apibūdinti talentingos liaudies dainininkės, pasakotojos, tautodailininkės, iškilios Gervėčių krašto tradicinės kultūros puoselėtojos ir pateikėjos Marijos Mažeikienės-Petrikaitės kūrybinės asmenybės bruožus, jos muzikinio gyvenimo ir dainuojamojo repertuaro ypatybes. Straipsnyje apibendrinta ir susisteminta visa 1970-aisiais ir 2008–2011-aisiais metais iš jos užrašyta muzikinė medžiaga: dainuojamosios tautosakos repertuaras (176 kūriniai), atsiminimai apie savo šeimą, giminę, muzikavimą ir šokimą per įvairias Gervėčių krašto kalendorines ir šeimos šventes, taip pat vakarėlius, pasakojimai apie muzikinę šio krašto kultūrą. Tiriami veiksniai, formavę M. Mažeikienės-Petrikaitės kūrybinę asmenybę ir jos repertuarą. Taikyti kokybinių tyrimų, analizės ir tipologinio lyginimo metodai. ENThe creative personality of the famous Lithuanian folk singer and provider of all the musical culture from Gervėčiai Region, Marija Mažeikienė-Petrikaitė (born in 1923, in Giriai Village, lives in neighbouring Petrikai Village) was shaped by the strong musical tradition of her close and extended families (especially on her father’s side) as well as the whole native village. As of an early age she heard many stories and songs from her paternal grandmother and both her parents. The fact that she married late and had more time than other girls to attend parties, including hen-parties (called wreath making parties) in her large native Lithuanian village helped her better grasp the local music tradition. Mažeikienė-Petrikaitė is well educated (1.5 years of primary Lithuanian school and 4 years of Polish primary school) and has been an ardent self-educator throughout her life. This and her unfading curiosity as well as the capacity to befriend both the old (including her husband’s parents) and the young made her collect and preserve a vast repertoire of musical folklore (recorded 176 works). Mažeikienė-Petrikaitė’s written memoirs build a succinct picture of the Lithuanian musical culture in Gervėčiai Region at different historical periods: at the time of the Tsarist Russia, during the Polish and later German occupations, the Soviet Period and in the Belarus Republic.The recorded data covers the customs of traditional festivals, youth culture and life cycle (weddings, funerals); traditions and transformations in musical practices (singing, religious singing, playing string instruments, musical folk games and dances); the activity of amateur companies of the first half of the 20th century (Gervėčiai church choir, orchestra, The Wood Department of St. Casimire’s Society, other choirs and theatre companies as well as the folk song and dance company "Žilvitis"); constant Lithuanians’ efforts to resist Polish and Belarusian influence. To Mažeikienė, a great proponent of Lithuanian culture and campaigner for peace with the foreign neighbours, songs and singing is the expression of her Lithuanian identity. [From the publication]
